Veteran and his wife get help from VA and Optum in cancer fight

After learning his cancer had returned, a Marine Veteran, Ron, later discovered that the provider who had treated him during his first round of cancer treatment wasn't listed as a Community Care Network provider. This put his treatment at risk of not being covered. Together, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs and Optum worked to ensure Ron received seamless care.

The World Trade Center (WTC) Health Program provides no-cost medical monitoring and treatment of conditions caused by 9/11 exposures to eligible responders and survivors through 2090. These benefits are available for all eligible responders who performed rescue, recovery, cleanup and related support services at the World Trade Center and related sites in New York City; the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia; and the crash site in Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

Lower Manhattan clinic opens to ease backlog of 9/11-related illness cases

The World Trade Center Health Program's new clinic opened recently in Lower Manhattan. This helps ease a backlog of nearly 3,000 survivors who are waiting to find out if their diseases are related to 9/11. If they are, their treatment is eligible to be paid for by the federal government. Logistics Health Inc., part of Optum Serve was chosen to run the clinic.
