Taking quick action to protect patients from COVID-19 exposure

All around the world, health care professionals are putting patients first while battling against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

In early March, as COVID-19 became a growing emergency, Optum clinics took action across the nation and closed their waiting rooms for the safety of patients. Our clinicians had to act quickly to screen patients with symptoms and protect patients needing other care. So, practices opened back-door clinics to check for COVID-19.

Within just three hours, the American Health Network medical practice in Greenfield, Indiana, part of Optum, had assembled supplies and were treating patients in the parking lot. One staff member even ran home to bring a pop-up tent to shelter the team from spring rain.

As worry and patient volume grew, our team members continued going above and beyond treating their patients. They even came in on their days off to ensure everyone was receiving care when they needed it most.

“These may be uncertain times, but years of building compassionate relationships with our patients and each other have prepared us for this.”
